SPECIES, HYBRIDISATION AND HERITAGE GROUP

Species – There are over 100 species, of which around 60% are in cultivation in the UK, but few are available from commercial sources. At our meetings knowledge and experience is shared about keeping, growing and propagating species.

Hybridisation – Our meetings are the forum for discussion and debate between some of the UK's most accomplished hybridisers as well as a forum to educate and encourage those who want to try hybridising for the first time but are not sure where to start.

Heritage – This covers fuchsia cultivars introducted up to and including 1938, the year of the British Fuchsia Society formation. Our forebears knew a lot about growing and breeding Fuchsias. It was probably the most popular plant grown in Victorian gardens and Stately Homes. The older cultivars are our heritage and a genetic bloodline. We are committed to preserving our Fuchsia Heritage.

The group meets twice a year at Lilbourne Village Hall, near Rugby, (CV23 0SY), this is location just five minutes from where the M1 and M6 meet. The day starts at 10 am with tea or coffee; we have a DIY lunch with tea and coffee half way through the day. The day finishes no later than 4.00pm.

Our meetings comprise of two or three talks either from our members and/or a guest speaker(s). Our meetings are about discussion and debate so there is plenty of time set aside for this.

A good selection of fuchsia plants donated by members is on sale at our meetings. These sometimes include unusual and/or rare species and cultivars.

Whether you're a beginner or a more experienced grower you are all welcome.
