It has come up both at the AGM and in other places that some members think every member of the society is a Trustee!!
This is incorrect!! The Trustees as defined by our consitution and reported to the Charity Commisions are the current members of the Committee including the Officers.
For those in any doubt about this please consult our constituion point 17a available from the members section of this website and the society record on the Charity Commission website. As all the Trustees have to be registered with England & Wales Charity Commission supplying an amount of personnal information, this would be an impossible task for the entire membership!!

All the National BFS show schedules have been uploaded as PDF files and can be downloaded from the members section

I hope all of you fuchsias are growing well and your members cuttings are growing away. As I am writing this we have had the strangest spell of cold June weather with very high rainfall coinciding with the Cricket World Cup! If you have planted any new hardy plants in the garden they certainly will not have needed watering in!
All of your pot plants standing outside should be OK. Just check the roots when this spell of weather has abated because sometimes the bottom part of the root ball can be drowned. Keep a close eye out for any signs of rust as it is likely to appear in this weather. If it does remove any affected leaves and spray with a suitable fungicide.
I hope to see some of you at the upcoming events. Watch to top banner or consult the events diary for details.

Fuchsia Gall Mite

Fuchsia Gall mite has spread further north last year with a case being reported in Breacon, Powys,at the top of Norfolk and in Stockport, so we all need to keep being vigilant. It is pretty well spread in the south of the country and we have had a lot of reports in these areas. So please keep an eye on your plants and those of your neighbours. This winter was a bit milder than last year so with the recent wet weather it is more likely to be spreading earlier in the year.

We are tracking where and when cases are found, you can find a link to a Google Maps page plotting the reports we have had on our links page - please can you contact with the post codes of any places where it is found.

Don’t forget if you have any questions on fuchsias – please ask us and we will do our best to help – we have a great team who will answer your emails.
